SSE'S PARENTS/GUARDIANS, LECTURERS, AND STAFF MEETING

     To start a new tradition for STKIP Kebangkitan Nasional or SSE in the beginning of the academic year, and to be acquainted with the families of its students, on 7th November 2009 at 10:00-13:00 WIB, SSE facilitated a meeting at its campus, Jl. Kapten Tendean no. 88C, South Jakarta. This meeting was attended by the students' parents/ guardians along with SSE lecturers and staff. One of the underlying reasons for the meeting is that SSE understands that the involvement of parents and/or family members is important for the success of the students.

      The meeting is essential for SSE not only as a forum to introduce the school, but also to present its programs, in which students have to take part within the next four years. On the other hand, parents were also able to inquire about the academic program at SSE and have a closer look of the campus. By having this meeting, it is hoped that parents will have the same vision, especially regarding SSE's expectations of its students, and be able to provide support for the success of the students.

      Regardless the fact that the freshmen just started their classes a little over a month ago, SSE is able to grasp the academic-related or non-academic-related problems that the students face in their campus life. By introducing SSE's programs and knowing the current conditions of SSE's students, the school expected that the parents will be able to provide their support in a more effective and efficient way. SSE also picked up valuable inputs regarding various obstacles faced by family members in supporting their loved ones.

     From this meeting, it is expected that:

  1. All parents/guardians now understand the process of teaching and learning at SSE, including extra curricular activities;
  2. All parents/guardians understand the kinds of expectations and demands of SSE toward the students
  3. All parents/ guardians as well as SSE family are able to have a dialogue on what is expected from each other and eventually able to come up with solutions for problems faced by the students.

      This meeting was warmly welcomed by the parents/guardians, as can be seen by the number of attendees, who came not only from Jakarta and nearby areas (Bogor, Depok, Banten, Tangerang and Bekasi), but also from West Java (Sukabumi, Cianjur, Ciamis and Majalengka), Central Java (Magelang and Blora), and Yogyakarta. A total of 65 parents/guardians attended the meeting. Some, due to their official duties, were unable to attend the meeting, even though they have previously confirmed their attendance. Some parents were only able to come without their spouses as invited. The attendees comprised of fathers, mothers, uncles, aunts, older siblings, and even a landlady.

    In general, parents/guardians were satisfied with the meeting and the explanation from SSE that was considered to be conducted within a convenient timeframe. They said that even though SSE was a newly established school, they were certain that SSE had employed staff with outstanding credentials and dedication. Therefore, they gladly entrusted their children to SSE. In addition to that, the guests were also impressed with the students' dance and choir performance in that meeting.
