PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The undergraduate program is a 4 year-study program which offers future teacher candidates unique opportunities to be qualified teacher with extended education, practical works and research. This program provides a solid basic concept in human development, educational theories, educational technology, diversity, curriculum and teaching-learning process to the teacher candidates. The objectives of this program are accomplished through the combination of formal lecturing-session, reflective practical seminars and practical works which is conducted at the same time with the final project of the program.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

Bachelor Degree in Education or Program Sarjana Pendidikan (S.Pd.) is focused into the the educators’ development which reflects the values and demonstrated the personal and professional ability (knowledge/skill and values/attitude) to teach and lead the educational environment in Indonesia, which are now facing a fast social, cultural and economic alteration.

PROGRAM CHARACTERISTIC

This program initiates the teachers’ candidate to customer-centric culture in the educational environment in Indonesia. It also equips them with a group of basic professional competencies and develops their personal quality as educators/teachers.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

The Undergraduate Program consists of 6 area of study with total 150 Credits (SKS), which are :

  • Educational Studies
  • Discipline of Science Studies
  • Curriculum Studies
  • English for Pedagogical Purposes Studies
  • Professional Preparation
  • Personal Development Studies

Educational Studies (30 Credits)

Educational Studies will develop the professional and ethical insights that all teachers need. Teacher candidates will consider “Whyin addition to the “What?” and “How” of the curriculum and practice of teaching in schools. This area of study will develop the professional knowledge, skill and attributes for reflective and effective teaching. In this, teacher candidates will draw upon their awareness of how students think, learn and develop.

Discipline Studies (36 Credits)

Dicipline Studies offers a choice of one of two main subjects (English or Mathematics). A significant amount of time is spent in study of the specialist subject. The modules are designed to develop the knowledge, conceptual understanding and modes of inquiry related to that subject and required of a specialist teacher. They will, in addition, support teachers candidates’ potential as curriculum managers and successful teacher candidates can look forward to eventual leadership roles within their schools.

Curriculum Studies (18 Credits)

Curriculum Studies modules prepare teacher candidates to specialize in the methodology for teaching core subjects of the National Curriculum. The modules will ensure that the teacher candidates achieve a secure knowledge and understanding of teaching in the core subjects (English or Mathematics) plus the pedagogical skills in teaching the pesific subject.

English for Pedagogical Purposes (36 Credit)

English for Pedagogical Purposes has two primary functions. First, it serves to develop the English anguage competencies to teacher candidates across the main four domains listening, speaking, reading and writing that is needed for them to undertake the programme modules successfully. Second, it allows them to develop provisional communication competence in English language. Specially, the modules will equip student tachers with the written language and voice skills that they will require for teaching, as well as for engaging effectively in academic discourse.

Professional Preparation (22 Credit)

School placements (or practicum) take place across each of the programme to enable teacher candidates to develop teaching competencies in a variety of contexts. Each of the field experiences is highly structured, closely supervised, and intended to provide multiple opportunities for teacher candisates to plan, instruct, reflect, and respond to students in general education classroom settings.

Personal Development (MPK) Studies (8 Credits)

Personal Development Studies review materials used to develop Indonesian people who are faithful and devoted to God Almighty and who are civic and responsible citizens.
